Bright Idea is the placeholder name for a male human who is a background character in the My Little Pony Equestria Girls franchise. He is a techie student at Canterlot High School.

In My Little Pony Equestria Girls, Bright Idea first appears as one of the many students crowding the Canterlot High hallway after the bell rings. During This Strange World, he appears using his locker and later walking by Twilight Sparkle. In Fluttershy's flashback, he appears walking outside the school. He later appears having lunch with the other techies in the school cafeteria. The following day, he appears walking towards the school with Micro Chips and appears inside the cafeteria during the Cafeteria Song. During the Fall Formal, he and the other students are hypnotized by Sunset Shimmer into becoming her personal army but are freed when the Equestria Girls defeat her. During the This is Our Big Night reprise, he again appears dancing at the Fall Formal.
Equestria Girls: Rainbow Rocks[]
In Rainbow Rocks, Brigt Idea first appears working on a poster for the CHS Musical Showcase. During Battle, he appears in the cafeteria as the Dazzlings begin hypnotizing the students. He later appears in the gym during the party for the bands participating in the battle of the bands. He later appears as a spectator for the Battle for the Bands; during the finals, he and the other spectators are brainwashed by the Dazzlings, but are freed from their hypnosis when the Rainbooms defeat them.

In Music to My Ears, Bright Idea briefly appears hurrying to class in the hallway as the bell rings. In Pinkie on the One, he appears sitting in the cafeteria with the other techies. In Player Piano, he appears walking toward the school with Micro Chips and later appears standing in the hallway. In Shake Your Tail, he appears in the audience for the Rainbooms' concert in the gym. In Perfect Day for Fun, he appears as a patron of the CHS carnival, talking to Scribble Dee at a dunk tank and later in watching the Rainbooms' concert. In the encore short Life is a Runway, he appears on a sidewalk with Watermelody watching Rarity walk by.
Equestria Girls: Friendship Games[]
In Friendship Games, Bright Idea first appears walking in front of the school with Micro Chips. He later appears in the gym during the CHS Rally Song. When the students from Crystal Prep Academy arrive at CHS, he appears with Velvet Sky greeting the human world Twilight Sparkle, mistaking her for Princess Twilight Sparkle, and later appears at the Welcome party for the Crystal Prep students. He appears in Cranky Doodle's class listening to Vice Principal Luna's annoucnement for the beginning of the Friendship Games. He subsequently appears as a spectator for the final event of the academic decathalon and the Tri-Cross relay. During the final event of the games, he is saved from falling into a rift to Equestria by Rainbow Dash. During the film credits, he appears in a selfie taken in Cranky Doodle's class.

In All's Fair in Love & Friendship Games, Bright Idea appears exiting the school and later appears looking at the list of who made the team for the Friendship Games. In Photo Finished, he makes a cameo appearance looking at his phone in the cafeteria.
Equestria Girls: Mirror Magic[]
In Mirror Magic, Bright Idea makes a cameo appearance at the Canterlot Mall looking at a smartphone stand with Silver Spoon as the Dance Magic music video begins playing and later appears with Flash Sentry watching Juniper Montage rampage through the mall from the second story.
Equestria Girls: Summertime Shorts[]
In A Photo Booth Story, Bright Idea makes a cameo appearance standing in line to have his photo taken by Photo Finish at the Fall Formal. In Raise This Roof, he appears at the Formal spectating the dance-off. In Steps of Pep, he appears in the audience for the CHS soccer game against CPA and later the chess match between Velvet Sky and Varsity Trim. After the former wins, he and the other audience members lift her away. In Epic Fails, he appears using his phone in the CHS cafeteria and also appears in Twilight's story talking to Starlight outside a classroom as Twilight causes a large chemical mess inside the classroom. He and Starlight then look inside the classroom's window. In Good Vibes, he makes a background appearance standing with Velvet Sky at the Canterlot Mall.
Equestria Girls: Digital Series (season 1)[]
In A Fine Line, Bright Idea appears using his phone while waiting in line for the Tirek's Revenge video game at the Canterlot Mall In Queen of Clubs, he makes a background appearance walking with Paisley in the school hallway and later appears as a member of the Chess Club and Science Club. In Overpowered, he makes a background appearance standing in the hallway using his phone with Micro Chips. In Display of Affection, he appears taking pictures of Flanksy's graffiti on the side of a building with his phone and later appears admiring the window display at the Carousel Boutique.
In Best Trends Forever, he appears as a member of the Canterlot High news crew. In Opening Night and Happily Ever After Party, he appears in the audience for the school play.
Equestria Girls: Forgotten Friendship[]
In Forgotten Friendship, Bright Idea makes background apperances waking behind the school, standing on the school's second floor with Captain Planet and Sophisticata, in Applejack's altered memories of the final event of the Friendship Games, talking to Scribble Dee in the hallway, and in a yearbook photo.
Equestria Girls: Rollercoaster of Friendship[]
In Rollercoaster of Friendship, Bright Idea appears in the audience for the Equestria Land light parade.

In Five Lines You Need to Stand In, Bright Idea appears in the security line for the Starswirled Music Festival.
Equestria Girls: Holidays Unwrapped[]
In "Dashing Through the Mall, Bright Idea briefly appears at the Canterlot Mall, waiting in line to the gaming store twice and later seen in the background talking to Blueberry Cake but they were startled by seeing Rainbow Dash whose literally running by them. In "O Come, All Ye Squashful", he briefly appears in the school hallways taking pictures and laughing at the the Equestria Girls in their cornucopia costumes along with his fellow schoolmates.
